Using WhatsApp on your Computer with Chrome Browser

WhatsApp, the most popular instant messaging app in the world as of now, has its own advantages and disadvantages, of course like any other app.

But compared with many apps like Skype, Viber, Facebook messenger, Gtalk or Hangouts, one of the main disadvantages with WhatsApp has been its lack of computer interface.

It is also due to the fact that WhatsApp relies on phone identification unlike Blackberry which uses a PIN system.

However WhatsApp has addressed this missing feature now officially by providing a web interface which can work on browsers. Particularly with Chrome, it is working nicely.

We at ViprasCraft have tried verifiying this new feature of WhatsApp on a Windows 8.1 computer on Chrome browser.

How to connect the phone and the computer?
  1. First you need to update your WhatsApp version. When you have the latest version, you will notice a new option under ‘menu’ as ‘WhatsApp Web’.
  2. Now open http://web.whatsapp.com and you’ll see a QR code (Quick response code in square shape) on the computer screen which you need to scan with your phone using the ‘WhatsApp Web’ option mentioned above. For that your phone needs to have the camera so that WhatsApp can read this QR code.
  3. Once the code is properly read, your computer session is memorized by the application and you can start using WhatsApp on your computer. After sometime if you wish, you can also log out of the computers.
The following screenshots help you understand this better:

You need to keep your phone turned on, and your internet shall be working too both on your phone and on your computer. You can have internet in any method like using cellular data on phone, WiFi for the computer, or WiFi for both the computer and phone, or cellular data for phone, cable internet for the computer, etc.

The important thing is that you have internet active always on both the devices as long as you are using your computer for accessing WhatsApp on your Chrome browser.
